  • Why is an HPV detection test necessary?

According to recent studies, over 99% of cervical cancers are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Since the fall of 2023, the INESSS (National Institute for Health and Social Services) has updated its recommendations for cervical cancer screening and replaced the Pap test with the HPV test. This test can detect strains of the virus that can develop into cancer.

  • What is an HPV detection test?

Samples taken from the cervix are analyzed in the laboratory to detect the presence of human papillomavirus that may be oncogenic (develop into cancer).

  • What is a Paptest?

Cells taken from the cervix are examined in the laboratory under a microscope to detect the presence of cancerous cells. This is also called cervical cytology.

  • You have a positive HPV result, what happens next?

You will be notified, and a Pap test will automatically be performed on your sample to check for the presence of cancer cells. We will also assess your eligibility for the HPV vaccine.

  • You have symptoms, what should you do?

Do you have condylomas? No problem: you will be referred to our medical director to confirm the diagnosis and redirect you to a specialist if necessary, then you will be treated in clinic via cryotherapy.
